FAMILY ADOPTION PROGRAMME
The Family Adoption Programme (FAP) is a community-based initiative implemented by the department of Community Medicine, HIMSR to address healthcare disparities and promote community well-being. This report provides an overview of the program’s objectives, implementation strategies, challenges and the current status of the programme in HIMSR.
AIM: Provide experimental learning opportunity to Indian Medical graduates towards community-based healthcare and thereby enhance equity in health.
Learning Objectives:
Student should be able to:
- Understand the concept of primary health care.
- Create health related awareness within community
- Function as a first point of contact for any health issues within the community
- Act as conduit between the population and relevant health care facility
- Generate and analyse related data for improving health outcomes and evidence based clinical practices.
Targets to be achieved by students:
Each student will be given five families to be followed up for 3 years in three phases.
First Professional Year- Phase 1
- Learning communication skills and inspire confidence amongst families
- Understand the dynamics of rural setup of the region
- Screening program and education about ongoing government sponsored health related programs
- Learn to analyse the data collected from their families
- Identify diseases/ill health/ malnutrition of allotted families and try to improve the standards
Second Professional Year- Phase 2
- Inspire active participation of community through families allotted
- Continue active involvement to become the first doctor/reference point of the family by continued active interaction
- Start compiling the outcome targets achieved.
Third Professional Year- Phase 3
Analysis of their involvement and impact on existing socio –political-economic dynamics in addition to improvement in health conditions along with report submission
